 2018 Preview

Central completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Central just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region eight with a 2-4 region record.

Since 2010, Central has gone a combined 52-36. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 121-132. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 4A and 211st in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Heath Wood who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 42-34 over the past seven seasons at Central. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Wood.

Coach Wood's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 42-34 (55.3%).

The Central Wildcats will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2018 season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Central came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Colbert County on Friday, August 24 at C.T. Manley Stadium. Last year the Colbert County Indians finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region eight. The Indians lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Fultondale by a score of 39-3.

Central and Colbert County have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-38-1 record against the Indians. They last met in 2003 with Colbert County winning by a score of 41-28.
